The Office - Season 9

  • Written by – Tim McAuliffe
  • Directed by – Jennifer Celotta
  • A brief synopsis – Commercials begin running for the documentary, now 9 years in the making, and the staff is feeling the excitement…and regret.  Dwight’s new girlfriend makes a good tractor buying incentive.  Jim is trying to bring Ryan Howard into the fold of the new company.
  • The best line – Erin: Dwight, you have some guests.  I think they are from the forest, where we harvest our paper?
  • The best moment – Meeting Ryan Howard, who tells everyone to “Eat Fresh.”
  • 2nd best moment – Pam gets the hell out of the fired camera guy’s apartment.
  • 3rd best moment – Phyllis…50 Shades of Grey.  Enough said.
  • The best story line – Clark and Dwight work so well together.
  • Notable guest appearances – Old video footage of Michael, and Dwight’s new girlfriend’s family.
  • Key exit(s) –  No obvious ones.
  • Grade – B

The third wall was picked away slowly…until now.  This time it’s obliterated, to some questionable comic effect.  The obsession with the commercials is funny…the idea that they were unaware of all the footage is not so much.  Andy’s preoccupation with commentary on Youtube works, until we find that it’s Nellie.  I don’t know about you, but I want to see Dwight score that hot chick.  Ryan Howard is a fun surprise, and he fits in better than Dr. J, even if he’s not quite the legend.  Seeing Pam do an about face while watching old footage helps her, and the some of the rest of us, realize why we’ve grown so close to the show.
