The Office: Episode 9 – Office Olympics

  • The Writer – Michael Schur
  • Director – Paul Feig
  • A brief synopsis – Michael is buying property, a condo, for the first time and is cornered into allowing Dwight to come along.  Jim, out of absolute boredom, discovers that other people in the office play games when Michael is not around.  Pam and Jim create an Olympics for the office and the rest of the staff follows along, except for Angela.
  • The best line – Jim: Stanley. Just played Dunder Ball with Toby. What about you, you got any games?
Stanley: Yeah, I got a game. It’s called “work hard so my kids can go to college.”
    Jim: Fair enough.
  • The best moment – When Angela reveals that, contrary to what Pam thinks, she plays a game in the office too, called Pam Pong, counting the several times per day that Jim gets up to speak with Pam.
  • The best storyline – Continuing the best moment, later, Pam, after talking with Jim, looks across the office, seeing Angela mark off another tic on a piece of paper for her game.
  • Notable guest appearance – Nancy Walls, Carell’s real life wife, playing the Real Estate Agent who sells Michael his condo.  Episode writer Mike Schur, as Mose, Dwight’s Amish cousin.
  • Grade – B

This episode definitely has its moments, including some good Pam / Angela and Michael / Dwight interplay as well as just seeing a picture of Mose.  All in all, though, it seemed like one of those episodes that you force just to give the other memebers of the office some screen time.
