Even if I never watch it again, this wasn't a waste of my time. It's not enough to make me see the next one in theaters, but it's definitely not the overwrought mess we saw the first time.
If nothing else, think of it as an addition to everything you know about the other adaptations, with a hope that they make more to flesh it all out a little. What I saw so far worked for me as a mild form of entertainment. It would be much better if it is followed up with more. And much sadder if they don't.
There is nothing here distinguishing this film from any of those other stories. The only appeal it can possibly have is if you are young enough to have not been inundated by the other examples and still think that it's pluck that wins out over experience.
