Candyman then (***1/2) and now (*****)
As it turns out, Marvel made the right choice. Candyman, the “spiritual” (instead of exploitive) sequel to the 1992 original, is superior in every way. In fact, this film is so good, it makes Bernard Rose’s film essential viewing, if only to complete the context.

Aquaman (***1/2) has fun in the shallows
“As it stands, the film still should do quite well. It’s more fun than any DCEU film than Wonder Woman yet it still feels like something that matters at times. Not all that much, though. I hope WW, The Flash and Aquaman push their leads and the DCEU out of the mire. ”
