Finding Dory (***1/2) is about new beginnings and never ending
If anything, this film shows us who the real star of the series is. There would have to be some major work done to incorporate Marlin as essential at this point. I am not sure Nemo ever mattered less.

The Conjuring 2 (****) secures Wan’s spot at the top of Horror
The Conjuring 2 – 2016 Director James Wan Screenplay by Wan, Chad and Carey Hayes, David Leslie Johnson Starring Vera Farmiga, Patrick Wilson, Frances O’Connor, Madison Wolfe, Simon McBurney, Franka Potente, Bonnie Aarons So difficult is it to pull off a movie about a haunting or even more, a possession, that it makes one want to shout from the hills and declare a…

Jane Got A Gun (***1/2): Hell’s coming with me
O’Connor has not done nearly as much as a director of his caliber since his incredible last effort, Warrior, mentioned earlier. If nothing else, Jane Got A Gun shows that he can take other people’s material and make something that we can feel. It’s a good, memorable western that allows us to know we come…

Disney slightly improves The Jungle Book (***1/2)
To be sure, I am probably never going to own this film. I may watch it again, but I know there will be more sequels, more remakes and more attempts to improve on the profits of this property. I appreciate it for what it is, and I did like the way the characters look like…

Slow West (***) aims for poignant, misses by that much
If one looks past the silliness of the story and takes a closer look at the heart, it’s not a bad film. It’s clear what Maclean wants to do, even if he doesn’t know how to do it and stay within the bounds of a consistent story. For now, it is nice that he has…

Captain America: Civil War (*****) Goes where the Avengers cannot
The story surges ahead and it really is quite centered, despite the number of characters involved. The premise is a simple one, yet the questions it asks are profound. It really extends on the premise on how we want to be governed. Do we want to fulfill our own destiny, or do we want to…
