Game Night (****) is great in how good it is
It’s early in the year, but so far, this is the best comedy. I haven’t laughed at a film considered a comedy in several years. Let’s hope this is the start of a trend.

I Don’t Have A Vote: The 90th Annual Oscars – Great Year for Film, Not Politics
“Hugh Jackman had a great year, with The Greatest Showman and Logan. On the latter film, he does the near impossible in creating an unbreakable character who is finally driven to the point of breaking. His work with Stewart is some of the best of both of their careers. He should have been rewarded for…

Death Wish (***) is down the middle
If this were a great film, there might be something to say about the rights to bear arms to protect oneself from the criminals. The filmmakers are not interested in waging a war in politics. They really just wanted a vehicle for Eli Roth to be just a little more mainstream and for Bruce Willis…

Silver City (**1/2) is on par with today’s political satire
This is one Sayles film that deserved to wallow in obscurity.

The Second Most Exotic Marigold Hotel (***1/2) treads delightfully

The 15:17 to Paris – 2018 Director Clint Eastwood Screenplay Dorothy Blyskal Starring Anthony Sadler, Alek Skarlatos, Spencer Stone, Judy Greer, Jenna Fischer, Ray Corasani This is where the breakdown happens in Clint Eastwood, post Obama. His political leanings have guided his cinematic choices over the last decade. He’s making films based on real events and people, letting his beliefs out through…

Black Panther (*****) – All the Stars
The onslaught of press behind this film is warranted, but not only for the intersectional reasons the media wants to throw in your face. This is an ageless story about a world we all would love to visit. Who it represents is important, but it shouldn’t be a victory limited to race. To leave it…

Cloverfield Paradox (**) Good cast, wasted
The Cloverfield Paradox – 2018 Director Julius Onah Screenplay Oren Uziel Starring Daniel Brühl, Elizabeth Debicki, Aksel Hennie, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Chris O’Dowd, John Ortiz, David Oyelowo, Zhang Ziyi As a surprise drop on Netflix a few hours after the Superbowl, The Cloverfield Paradox is packed full of references to the first two films of the series. The film goes a long way to…
