Hunter Killer (***) is obvious and likable

Let's be honest. It's not a tremendous work of art that Marsh, Butler and co. have produced here. There are no nominations or awards forthcoming. What Hunter Killer does have, though, is enjoyability on a completely masculine scale. It's the kind of film I might have watched with my dad when he was alive. It deserves respect for being competent, entertaining and earnest to a fault, if not original.

A Simple Favor (*****) deserves another

#asimplefavor "This film has legs. Like it's story, no one expected it, but it will leave its viewers entertained and rewarded. "

The Founder (****) gives a decent take on who built that

I wish they could have stretched this out to perhaps another film or at least another hour, beyond the reach they allowed themselves. In this way, the movie feels a lot like that restaurant in San Bernardino. It's fine start, but this story is worth a franchise.

Daddy’s Home (***1/2) two are better than none

My teenage daughter and I spent much of the last 20 minutes laughing. Sometimes for the same reason. This is rare. If you like comedies, this will stand out. If you are suspicious of them, this will not win any awards, but it just might make you smile a time or two. You might even laugh.
