Spider-Man: Far From Home (****1/2) continues the winning streak
One thing that should not be disputed by now is that Tom Holland is the best Spider-Man, and it’s not even close.
Shaft (*****) is damn right
John Shaft is the urban answer to the motto “Don’t Tread on Me.” It’s a remarkable statement that no doubt has lead many critics who live in big cities to blanch at the apparent crudity espoused by the filmmakers. Now in their 5th film and going on 5 decades. All it really does is show the difference between those who prefer a nanny state and those who’d rather think of it as a distant uncle they see once in a while.

Ant-Man and the Wasp (*****) builds on success
The one who benefits most from this arrangement is Lilly’s Hope, who continually marches through each predicament with the smarts of Hermione and the physical prowess of Wonder Woman. She is the best part of Ant-Man and The Wasp. Nothing she does is done for the sake of being a woman or in spite of it. She’s out to accomplish objectives.
Solo: A Star Wars Story (*1/2) is a bad bet
The trick about #Solo is that there are no tricks. There are no moments where you say “Wow, how’d they think of that?” because you know the writers and director never really thought of it, they just incorporated the thoughts of Lucas and company 41 years ago.
