Golden Sombrero: The Haunting (*) is lukewarm chills
This is a bad movie. Really it’s more sad than anything.
-

The Cube (**1/2) – Canadian Squares
As it stands, it is more a curiosity than something to engage beyond just that.
-

In the Tall Grass (***1/2) we all live on
Patrick Wilson is unheralded for his ability to move back and forth between solid good guy and sinister creep from role to role. I don’t think I have ever seen an actor able to give off the best and worst vibes at will.
-

Jexi (**) is an uneven attempt at being inoffensive
“They almost had something here. Good thing no one can be offended, though.”
-

Zombieland: Double Tap (***1/2) is more of what you know
There are some new characters that stick around only until the joke starts to smell of zombie flesh. There are some pleasant surprises. Mostly, though, we’re here just to see these people use the same lines we are used to…and maybe one new one.

Forgotten Gem: Jackie Brown (*****) – Robert Forster lives on
The ending sends chills through me every time. Especially today, knowing that the end of El Camino is the last time I will ever see the deep story told within the eyes of Robert Forster.

Forgotten Gem: Heat Director’s Definitive Edition (****) Slick
If you watch one Michael Mann film, make it The Insider. If you want to see a second, try Heat.
-

Golden Sombrero: Bordello of Blood (*) Miller is a gem on a turd
One has to wonder if Feldman knew his career was never going to turn out the way he’d hoped when they told him only Miller could change the awful script.
-

Forgotten Gem: McCabe & Mrs. Miller
The cruelest irony in the final shot is that one can win, even they don’t know all has been lost already.
